Work has officially commenced on the Pungudutivu Coastal Leisure Park, a new development project located along the Velanai shoreline, under Sri Lanka’s national Clean Sri Lanka initiative. The project aims to enhance public coastal spaces while preserving the natural beauty of the island.
The coastal leisure park is designed to provide a welcoming and accessible environment for both local residents and visitors. Planned features include paved walking paths, seating benches, and designated parking areas, making it easier for families, elders, and tourists to enjoy the seaside safely and comfortably.
This initiative is expected to contribute positively to community well-being by creating a peaceful recreational space where people can gather, exercise, and relax by the ocean. It also holds potential to attract visitors traveling through the Jaffna district, offering Pungudutivu another point of interest for eco-friendly and community-focused tourism.
For the Pungudutivu diaspora, the project represents a meaningful step toward sustainable development on the island, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve public infrastructure while maintaining cultural and environmental values. As construction progresses, the coastal leisure park is anticipated to become a valued landmark for future generations.
